Title: Review: Hair Transplant Before / After

Bald spot and chunk of hair falling, these are always the wreaker. But we usually do not notice it unless it reaches a point where the empty spot on our scalp is getting more obvious. Today, I'm sharing a story of my Dad and would like to take you through his journey, where we see hope. 

Dad has lots of hair when he was younger, as much as he knew that as people gets older, their hair isn't as strong. It still took him a while to digest, accepting the fact that he is facing hair loss. Through his daily morning regime while preparing to get to work, I could see how dishearten he is while looking into the mirror as he noticed the residing hair.

At the clinic I frequent for acne treatments, I saw that they treat hair loss through Regenera Activa and FUE hair transplant method. Feeling foreign to Hair Transplant, I brought my dad with me to meet my aesthetic doctor, Dr Gerard Ee for a consultation. 

Basically the analogy of Hair Transplant is extracting your healthy and resistant hair follicles from the back of the head and transplant them to the front and top of the head instead. In our understanding, it's sort of 'moving house' for the follicles and that once the removed hair follicles are removed from the area, it wont grow back from there anymore, instead the hair will grow at it's new 'house'.

Hair Transplant Process & Result

Few days prior the procedure, Dad had another consultation with Dr Chow Yuen Ho and they roughly discussed on where they will plant the graft.

 

They also drew some blood sample. 

On the day of the hair transplant 

Final Marking and Extracting of grafts - Before the start of the hair transplant, Dr Chow Yuen Ho did a final marking on where the grafts will be planted.

 

The whole hair transplant procedure took about 6 hours for the transplant of 2500 grafts. 

The medical team injected local anesthesia at the site of the head where they'll be extracting the grafts. (on the side note, so thankful to the team for providing warm cozy blanket 😊)

They start extracting the graft and then sorted the grafts carefully, before proceeding to implantation.

Implanting

Local anaesthesia is applied before punching small holes into the recipient area for the implant of harvested grafts.

Throughout this whole procedure, Dad wasn't feeling any discomfort thanks to the local anesthesia (except when the anesthesia was first applied). 

Post Care after Hair Transplant

Dad was prescribed anti-biotic, pain killers, saline spray, stem cell serum throughout the healing period. He could feel slight itchy tingling sensation during the healing process, but it was bearable for him! :) Dad was advised to avoid the usual adult shampoo and only use baby shampoo.

This is the result over the past 1 year, the hair on the newly implanted areas will need at least 6 months for it to settle down, thus during the initial phase, its normal for the hair to drop off. This result is really amazing, for just 2500 grafts transplant, we could tell so much difference, the healthy hair is growing and filling the residing hairline!!
